At
HRL, we focus on advanced developments in electronics, information & systems sciences, materials, sensors, and photonics, with our workspace
spanning basic research to product delivery. We have particularly emphasized capabilities in high performance integrated circuits, high power
lasers, antennas, networking, and smart materials. Our staff is producing pioneering work and numerous patents in these areas. HRL has also
delivered thousands of components tailored to demanding requirements and sophisticated algorithms with discriminators for immediate system
insertion. HRL technologies fly in satellites and fighter jets, enable radars, provide communication protocols, and support the vehicles
and systems of the future.
We have a rich history of discoveries and innovations, dating back more than 60 years
to the days when Howard Hughes first created Hughes Research Laboratories to address the most challenging technical problems. Under
that name, and now as HRL, our organization has a long-standing reputation of serving the national interest through contract and internal
research and development. We continue to work with many Government agencies and laboratories. We also collaborate with numerous universities
and academic institutions.
Today, our energetic 260-member staff is focused on the future and meeting the needs for new products and improved
systems. Over 95% of our technical staff have advanced degrees – more than 77% have Ph.D. degrees. We focus on high performance game-changing
technologies where we bring unique perspectives and capabilities. Our multi-disciplinary workforce lends itself to development of creative
and innovative solutions that cross conventional technology boundaries to produce breakthrough solutions.
Each year, HRL's intellectual property base grows with patents and trade secrets in key technology areas. We
work to ensure that our LLC Members and customers find HRL to be the optimal source for their research and development needs. In addition,
HRL takes selected technologies to the production stage where there is demand for our specialty components and software. Please explore our
