Eight Patents Issued in November Show Breadth of HRL’s Technology Portfolio

MALIBU, Calif., November 9, 2010—Eight patents recently issued to HRL Laboratories, LLC, represent the broad range of technology research and development at HRL.

The eight patents issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office on November 9, 2010, include:

• Layout for self-aligned emitter-base processing
• Integrated quartz oscillator on an active electronic substrate
• Device having integrated MEMS [Microelectromechanical] switches and filters
• Artificial Impedance Surface
• Capacitive arrangement for qubit operations
• Circuitry and algorithm for improvement of acquisition in phase-locked loops
• Optical pulse position modulator with chirp compensation
• System and method for using context in navigation dialog

HRL’s patented technologies are developed by or between HRL’s four specialty laboratories with the goal of enhancing or expanding a variety of defense, aerospace and automotive applications.

HRL’s first patent dates to 2000, three years after HRL was established as an LLC.  Since then,  HRL has been awarded more than 570 patents, with 76 patents issued to date in 2010.
