HRL Appoints New Laboratory Director

MALIBU, Calif., April 14, 2010—HRL Laboratories announced today the appointment of Emil Martinsek as Director of its Applied Electromagnetics Laboratory (AEL). He comes to HRL from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) where he is currently Chief of the Electromagnetics Technology Division. Over his 31 year career with the Air Force, Martinsek has become a nationally recognized expert in electromagnetic technology with applications to antennas, radars and sensors at the component and integrated system levels.  

During his tenure with the AFRL, Martinsek served as a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) program manager, supported numerous Air Force scientific advisory boards, and served on several high-level government panels.  His technical areas have ranged from new materials development in support of inexpensive conformal antennas and systems, space-based radar, radar signatures, sensors and spectrum management.  He has defined the strategic vision for and implementation of several major Air Force initiatives.

As AEL Director, Martinsek will be leading cutting-edge research efforts in electromagnetics, photonics, RF technologies and computational physics. With his technical background and programmatic experience, he will provide important focus and direction to maintain HRL's status as a world leader in these technology areas.
