Dr. Joel N. Schulman of HRL Laboratories, LLC has
been named Fellow to the American Physical Society. |
Most recently, Dr. Schulman has been credited with leading the effort to develop a new millimeter-wave detector diode made from antimonide compound-semiconductor-based quantum tunneling structures. This device has enabled approximately a ten-times sensitivity improvement in RF power radiometry and is becoming the standard detector in millimeter-wave imaging cameras.
Dr. Schulman received his BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 and his PhD in Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1979.He subsequently became an associate professor at the University of Hawaii.Dr. Schulman joined what is now HRL Laboratories (formerly Hughes Research Labs) in 1985. His field of research is the application of semiconductor quantum nanostructure physics to new electronic materials and devices. Dr. Schulman is also an adjunct professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
